My Story
How I Became A Freelance Translator
I was born in Germany and now live in Ghent, Belgium. Although I come from a family of architects and engineers, languages are my passion. Consequently, technical translation was a natural career choice for me. For my master’s degree in translation studies, I specialized in engineering and information technology.
I grew up in a traditionally industrial area of Germany, and studied mechanical engineering in university for a year before changing course to pursue a BA in comparative linguistics. So being a technical translator allows me to combine everything I love into one satisfying career. I now own my own freelance translation business, Texacta Translations – Julia Hanus.

At Texacta Translations, I translate from English, French, and Dutch into German. I do technical translations, and also translate for the tourism and sports industries. I love working with sustainable, open-minded businesses in the tourism and sports sectors because I share their values. Like them, I am passionate about respecting people and the environment, am fascinated by other cultures, and I have a profound love for the outdoors.
Most importantly, I value clear and open communication with my clients, which I consider to be essential ingredients for effective collaboration.
